ALL THINGS SACRED

Oglala Bluff

This collection of photographs by Melinda Rose invites the viewer into the Great Plains and the lives of the Oglala Lakota Nation. The images offer a glimpse beyond the immense poverty that persists on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and focuses on the deep spiritual relationship the Lakota people share with their land and their ancient traditions. Here is a look at a strong and resilient people, living in the shadow of American’s shameful history, yet surviving each day with dignity, wisdom and humor.

This photo essay is part of an ongoing book project, funded entirely by the sale of these photographs. A portion of the book’s proceeds will be used to help further educational opportunities for one of the many gifted children living on the reservation.
